Lovely family retreat by the river

Beck Steps

As the name suggests, Beck Steps sits besides Langdale Beck just after it has passed under the beautiful stone bridge in Elterwater. This three storey whitewashed stone property sleeps eight guests in three double rooms, two of which are en-suite, and one twin. There are two cosy sitting rooms with log burners. The lower sitting room and one of the double bedrooms are located in what would have been the third cottage in this short terrace, accessed by descending a short flight of stairs.

The modern open plan kitchen – dining area is on the first floor with further bedrooms and bathrooms on the upper floors.

Beck Steps has picturesque views from the front towards Elterwater and benefits from an outside terraced area with a table and benches for those summer evenings and a bit of alfresco dining. Elterwater is a very picturesque village in the heart of the Lake District and boasts one of the best local pubs, The Britannia Inn which offers delicious rustic seasonal pub dining, serving breakfast, lunch and supper. It has two individual bar areas for day visitors, warming open fires and stunning alfresco dining under the summer sun making it a pub for all seasons. Slates Bistro sits on the corner and a short walk away is the Eltermere Inn, where guests can enjoy a fine dining experience in gorgeous surroundings.

There is ample off-street parking for up to three cars. Additional parking can be found in the National Trust Car Park beside Elterwater’s babbling beck, subject of many paintings. National Trust members can park for free.

For those who wish to explore further afield, a bus stop is located opposite the Britannia Inn. Buses are frequent and connect guests with the wider towns and outstanding scenery of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Leaving the car behind and jumping on a bus to explore the National Park not only helps to look after the spectacular landscape but also gives passengers the opportunity to see it without the challenge of negotiating narrow, and sometimes steep, country lanes or search for parking at your destination. By sitting back watching the landscape go by, the journey becomes part of your adventure!
