A lovely family retreat on the edge of Grasmere

A spacious and well appointed cottage on the edge of Grasmere, with easy walking access to Easedale and Helm Crag as well as the delights of Grasmere.

Juniper Cottage (or No 3 Fieldside) is a five minute walk from the centre of Grasmere village on the road towards Easedale Tarn, just passed the YHA Grasmere and opposite the Glenthorne Quaker Guest House. This makes it an ideal choice for walkers of all ages, whether following the coast to coast or less energetic rambles, with views across Helm Crag and Silver How.

Built in 1850, the Fieldside Cottages provided accommodation for the Wilsons, an extended family of master carpenters and joiners. As the Wilson business grew a row of smaller cottages were built just to the north of Juniper – these were used as offices and for additional storage. It is said that the double bedroom at the side with the outside stone steps used to be the quarry manager’s office and the room adjacent to it, which is now The Hayloft, a store for dynamite.

The main entrance opens onto the enclosed front garden and a side entrance from the yard, accessed from either the rear where there is parking for one vehicle or from a gate at the side of the front garden. Juniper has a spacious living room and kitchen-dining room with a large dining table and chairs. There are two large double bedrooms on the first floor, a twin room and family bathroom. A further shower room is downstairs. To the rear of Juniper is an open field with a children’s playground which you can access from the lane further along Easedale Road.

Juniper Cottage is well maintained and the owners carry out regular refurbishment of the property.

This property is pet friendly. However, it only accepts one small dog.

Grasmere is home to a number of historical attractions, beautiful walks around the Water and towards Rydal and Ambleside and some fantastic bars and restaurants to keep you entertained.

This property is next door to Juniper Hayloft, which sleeps 2, and can be booked together for groups of up to 6-8 with the benefit of separate space.

Please note that there is only one allocated space behind Juniper Cottage.  There is parking for one additional vehicle in the guest house car park opposite the cottage. Please confirm arrangements with our office.

EV Charger now available – instructions for accessing this are in the cottage and payment is made directly to the owners
