Inglewood House is a welcoming, double-fronted traditional Lakeland cottage located in an elevated position on the Eastern Edge of Chapel Stile. It borders open countryside and enjoys lovely country views. Comfortably sleeping up to six people, this cottage has the benefit of being in both a quiet rural setting and also just a two-minute walk to the local village store, cafe and Wainwrights Inn. There is off road parking for one car; additional cars can be parked along the lane or in the village.
The cottage is set back from the road and accessed down a flight of steps. The front door opens into a generous slate-floored hallway with an old pine bench with ample room for muddy boots and rucksacks. This leads to a beautiful open-plan kitchen, living and dining area with solid oak floors, and an abundance of Lake District themed prints and original artwork.
The well-equipped and modern kitchen offers open vistas across Black Fell from the kitchen table. Alternatively, take a cup of coffee onto the patio and enjoy the sounds of nature and the occasional bells from the church. There also the benefit of another dining area diagonally opposite the kitchen.
There are two comfortable sofas positioned close to the wood-burning stove for those cold winter evenings. South-facing windows with window seats, let in plenty of light to enjoy your days no matter what the weather. The kitchen door opens out on to a lovely enclosed garden with a lawn, flower beds and furnished patio area.
Upstairs there are original stripped floorboards and pretty soft furnishings throughout. The master bedroom has a cast iron bedstead, antique wardrobe and a lovely ensuite with a large metro-tiled shower. The spacious second bedroom has a king-size bed and is just across the landing from a stylish wood panelled bathroom with a luxurious roll top bath and shower above. Both of the double bedrooms have stunning long-range views across the valley. The cottage is very quiet at night, with the bedroom windows open you can often hear the nearby stream. The third bedroom with adult-size bunk beds provides additional space and comfort for an adult, or two teenagers or young children.
Inglewood is well equipped with plenty of board games, DVDs, novels and an internet-connected TV – everything you need for a fun night in. There are lots of guidebooks and leaflets to help you plan your next day’s adventures over a glass of wine.
Chapel Stile is the perfect base from which to explore the Lake District with family and friends. This super cottage is in the heart of the National Park with walking, climbing and cycling available straight from the door.
The attractive neighbouring village of Elterwater home to the famous Britannia Inn is just 15 minutes walk away. From there you can continue along the river to Skelwith bridge and the fabulous Chesters Café or over Red Bank to Grasmere home of the world-famous Grasmere gingerbread. The lively old Dungeon Ghyll hikers bar, cosy New Dungeon Ghyll hotel and Stickle Barn Tavern are just up the road in the Langdale valley.
Ambleside and Coniston are less than 15 mins drive away with their bustling centres of shops, eateries and water activities including lake cruises. Windermere and Ullswater are only slightly further illustrating what a central Lakeland position this is perfect for leisurely exploration.
So to sum up; for a characterful and comfortable stay in a spectacular location, Inglewood House is a unique and beautiful cottage to be enjoyed all year round.
