A cosy traditional stone cottage

This is a lovely traditional terraced stone cottage, providing ample accommodation for 6 in this picturesque langdale village

Nans is a two storey traditional Lakeland end of terrace cottage in Elterwater that was, at one time, two smaller cottages and dates back to the 18th century. It has ample accommodation for six guests.

The front door opens onto a dining room, beyond which is a well-equipped modern kitchen and cosy cottage style lounge with roaring open fire. A sliding door from the lounge leads onto a private patio with table, chairs and stunning views across the common, in which to sit and enjoy the peace of the valley after a hard day’s walking, making it a suitable destination all year round.

Please note where the garden used to be open at the back, this is now fenced off.

Up the stairs are two ample sized double bedrooms and a twin bedroom. There is a bathroom and separate shower room.

Parking is available locally via on street parking.  The cottage has one parking permit which must be displayed when parking within the controlled zone area within the village. However, there is no designated parking with the property. Additional parking is available outside of the controlled zone or in The National Trust Car Park beside Elterwater’s babbling beck, where members can park for free.

Elterwater is one of the prettiest villages in the Lake District and the location of Nans puts you right in the heart of the village with numerous walks straight from the door. The famous Britannia Inn is just a short stroll away from the front door and Slates Bistro sits on the corner opposite Elterwater’s magnificent maple tree. But if fine dining is your thing, then wander over the stone bridge that spans the River Brathay and indulge yourself at the welcoming Eltermere Inn.

For those who wish to explore further afield, a bus stop is located opposite the Britannia Inn. Buses are frequent and connect guests with the wider towns and outstanding scenery of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Leaving the car behind and jumping on a bus to explore the National Park not only helps to look after the spectacular landscape but also gives passengers the opportunity to see it without the challenge of negotiating narrow, and sometimes steep, country lanes or search for parking at your destination. By sitting back watching the landscape go by, the journey becomes part of your adventure!
