Woodland Crag Cottage is situated in a small hamlet on the road to the rear of Wordsworth’s Dove Cottage close to the famous Lakeland town of Grasmere. There are just a handful of cottages and a farm in this tranquil location and is within very easy walking distance to the centre of Grasmere. The historic property built of Lakeland stone about 200 years ago now provides extremely comfortable cosy cottage accommodation for six people with all the modern equipment and facilities one could want. The only noise to disturb the peace of this property is the stream which runs at the side of the house and birds in the gardens.
Accommodation downstairs opens up into a hallway with coat and boot rack, spacious tastefully furnished lounge with feature fireplace and an open fire, a cottage style kitchen / dining area with all modern appliances and a bathroom with a bath. Upstairs is a large double bedroom, a smaller double bedroom with sliding door leading onto the garden area and a twin bedroom. The separate bathroom on the first floor has a shower.
To the rear of the property is a small well planted private garden for guests to enjoy as well as an enclosed, shingle patio area to the front.
Private parking for two cars is available right outside the cottage.
A short walk down the lane is Grasmere, famous for being home to William Wordsworth. He once described it as “the loveliest spot that man hath ever found”. The Wordsworth Cottage and museum are a short stroll from the cottage and well worth a visit. Today, the town is a bustling hive of activity and one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Lake District. It is home to the famous Sarah Nelson’s Gingerbread. Its traditional bakery and quaint shop shouldn’t be missed. Grasmere has several art galleries, gift shops, cafes, pubs, a selection of outdoor equipment retailers and a Co-op convenience store.
The bustling popular town of Ambleside is a short five mile drive away or a pleasant walk through the woods behind the cottage. The small town of Keswick with its wide range of shops, quaint alleyways and busy market square is approximately thirteen miles away and can also be accessed by bus.
For those who wish to explore further afield, the buses are frequent connecting guests with the wider towns and outstanding scenery of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. Leaving the car behind and jumping on a bus to explore the National Park not only helps to look after the spectacular landscape but also gives passengers the opportunity to see it without the challenge of negotiating narrow, and sometimes steep, country lanes or search for parking at your destination. By sitting back watching the landscape go by, the journey becomes part of your adventure!
