End Cottage is a traditional white stone built Lakeland Cottage with an abundance of character and not a straight wall in the place!
It is at the eastern end of the village of Chapel Stile, as the name suggests and from the doorstep you can literally walk straight out onto the fells.
Sleeping up to six people the tastefully decorated accommodation comprises of a spacious open plan lounge / sitting room, kitchen and dining area and one twin bedroom on the first floor. The lounge is dual aspect offering panoramic views over the hillsides. Its log burning stove keeps this room cosy in winter. On the ground floor there is one double bedroom, en-suite with a shower room and WC, one twin bedroom and a separate bathroom with a shower over the bath and WC.
It is right next door to our Speddy Cottage, which can be booked together offering enough accommodation for eleven guests in total.
To the rear of the property is a pleasant paved area for sitting out in the sun to enjoy the peaceful surroundings and clear air. This leads into an enclosed area of fellside where children can play in perfect safety.
The heart of the village is just a short stroll away where guests can find the well stocked local convenience store – the Langdale Co-op, Brambles Cafe, the village church – The Great Langdale Holy Trinity and Wainwrights Inn which sells local brewed ales and provides good homemade food. The famous climbers bar at The Old Dungeon Ghyll, New Dungeon Ghyll Hotel and Stickle Barn Tavern (now owned by the National Trust) are just up the Langdale Valley.
End CottageĀ is a good base to explore the many activities in the local area with some of the best scenery and walking right on the doorstep.
The property is not far from a main bus route enabling guests to connect with towns and scenery further afield without the need to negotiate narrow Cumbrian lanes in the car and find parking at the destination. Picturesque Elterwater is a short walk away with its famous Britannia Inn and Slates Bistro opposite the magnificent maple tree. Just over the stone bridge that spans the babbling River Brathay is the welcoming Eltermere Inn for a touch of fine dining. Surrounded by extensive lawns framed with awe-inspiring views, the Eltermere Inn combines the highest standards of service, good food and informality.
The cottage is handily placed to access the breathtakingly beautiful Langdale Valley, only four miles from the hustle and bustle of Ambleside and close to the neighbouring villages of Grasmere, home to the renowned Grasmere gingerbread, and Hawkshead – a delightful village full of charm, higgledy-piggledy houses, archways and squares to wander around.
There is ample parking for two cars beside the cottage.
