more...Whether you want to lace up your walking boots, soak up the history and culture of this unique places, or simply relax in beautiful nature, you can do it all here. For keen walkers, there are hundreds of trails to explore. A moderately challenging walk to try is the Sickle Tarn Trail, which starts at the Stickle Ghyll Car Park, and runs past several stunning waterfalls, to the windswept Sickle Tarn.
If you’re travelling with the family, the Mickleden Valley Trail is a good bet, as it is longer, but flat and easier to follow. Passing along part of the Cumbria Way, the out-and-back walk takes in views of spectacular mountain passes where you can see evidence of ancient Neolithic settlers. If you’re feeling particularly adventurous, you can tackle the iconic Langdale Pikes, on a challenging but rewarding circular walk, talking in Thunacar Knott, Thorn Crag, Pike of Stickle, Pavey Ark, Loft Crag and Harrison Stickle.
Want to explore at a more leisurely pace? Head to the High Close National Trust Arboretum. Wind your way down tranquil woodland paths, spotting all the exotic tree and shrub species as you go. For keen cyclists, the Langdale Valley Cycle Trail is 11 miles of amazing cycling, taking in the incredible views of the Langdale Pikes, through to Elterwater and alongside the River Brathay to Skelwith Bridge a small hamlet located in the heart of the Lake District.
If you’re looking for some heart-warming pub grub to tuck into after a long walk, the Old Dungeon Ghyll in the heart of Langdale is the place to be. Slightly further down the valley, Wainwright’s Inn in Chapel Stile is also a favourite among both locals and tourists.

For a coffee and a cake, you can either stop off at the famous Chester’s By the River in Skelwith Bridge or at Slate’s Coffee & Kitchen in Elterwater.
