This cottage is the corner property in a small terrace of slate built cottages on the outskirts of Grasmere, which creates a wonderful secluded feel. This property backs onto the open plain around the River Rothay, with fantastic views across to Helm Crag, and surrounding hills – you can either sit and enjoy the view or use the time to plan your next walk or look back at the walks you have just completed.
Holly Cottage is a cosy space, with an open plan living-dining room with large windows, and an open staircase to the first floor bedrooms – both king-size rooms with one of the bedrooms including an ensuite toilet. The galley kitchen is well equipped, and leads to a small yard with a low wall and outside seating to enjoy the views on finer days. The open tread stairs may be an issue for small children – please contact us for more information.
Just on the edge of the village, but only a short walk from the main village green all the amenities of Grasmere, this is a great location to leave the car parked for the week and explore all of the local walks straight from your doorstep.

Nestled in the heart of the Lake District, Grasmere is a charming and historic village surrounded by stunning scenery, with its tranquil lake, wooded valleys, and dramatic fells all around. Famous as the home of poet William Wordsworth, who described it as “the loveliest spot that man hath ever found”, the village retains much of its traditional character with stone-built cottages, cosy tearooms, craft shops, and welcoming pubs.
Grasmere is easily reached by car from the M6 motorway, leaving at Junction 36 and following the A591. The nearest train station is at Windermere, about 8 miles away, with regular bus and taxi connections to the village.
Once in Grasmere, you can enjoy a gentle stroll around Grasmere Lake, visit Wordsworth’s former home at Dove Cottage and the Wordsworth Museum, or explore the pretty churchyard where the poet is buried. Don’t miss trying the world-famous Grasmere gingerbread from the tiny shop that has been baking it since 1854. Throughout the year, the village hosts events including the Grasmere Sports and Show, a traditional Lakeland sports day with fell running, hound trails, and wrestling, a highlight of the local calendar.
