The Langdale Valley is one of the Lake District’s most iconic and breathtaking locations, famed for its rugged scenery, dramatic fells and traditional stone-built villages. Home to the striking Langdale Pikes, the valley offers some of the best walking, climbing and cycling routes in the national park, with something for everyone from gentle riverside strolls to challenging ridge hikes.
Langdale is easily reached from Ambleside by car via the A593 and B5343, or by bus from Windermere station (around 9 miles away), with stops at Chapel Stile and Elterwater.
At the heart of the valley are the welcoming villages of Elterwater and Chapel Stile, where you’ll find cosy pubs, cafés and a village shop. Walkers can set out straight from their door to explore the Pikes, Crinkle Crags, Bowfell and beyond, or simply enjoy the peaceful riverside paths and woodland trails closer to the valley floor.
With its stunning views, excellent access to the central fells and an authentic, unspoilt atmosphere, the Langdale Valley is the perfect choice for anyone looking to experience the true beauty of the Lake District.
