The slate stone cottage is located just behind our admin office, set back off Main Street, and only 100m away from The Britannia Inn and Slates cafe. Set out over two floors, you enter the property on the upper ground floor, where there is the kitchen, main living/dining room, and the two bedrooms (twin and a kingsize), then downstairs to the seperate toilet, second living room and small bathroom (shower over the bath and a wash basin). The property has been furnished to provide a comfortable and spacious accommodation for your stay, and we are offering this as a budget stay to provide access to this wonderful village and valley.
Langdale is one of the most dramatic parts of the Lake District with the Langdale Pikes, Cringle Crags and the ascent to Bowfell which is one of the routes to get up and across to Scarfell Pike. Elterwater is our own base, which is close to Chapel Stile – some fantastic places to eat and drink close by; Britannia Inn, Slates cafe, The Eltermere Inn Hotel and Lanty Slees to name a few of our favourites.
There is parking for one car.
Dogs are welcome.

Tucked away in the stunning Langdale Valley, Elterwater is a picture-perfect Lake District village, known for its peaceful setting, charming stone cottages, and the beautiful tarn that gives the village its name. With the dramatic Langdale Pikes rising in the background and riverside walks right on the doorstep, it’s a favourite spot for walkers and photographers alike.
Elterwater is just a short walk or drive from Chapel Stile and easily reached from Ambleside via the A593 and B5343. The nearest train station is at Windermere, around 8 miles away, with bus and taxi connections into the valley.
From here, you can enjoy gentle strolls along the River Brathay to Elterwater Tarn, more challenging hikes into the surrounding fells, or simply relax and take in the views. The friendly local pub and the nearby Eltermere Hotel offer welcoming spots to eat and drink after a day exploring.
With its idyllic scenery, quiet charm, and easy access to both Langdale and the central Lakes, Elterwater is an ideal base for enjoying the very best of the Lake District.
