Is the Lake District a doggy paradise? Yes. But it’s also the perfect place to retreat for a no-fur, no-fuss break, without pets. If you have pet allergies, or simply prefer no pets-allowed holiday cottages, we’ve got you covered.
Maybe you have beloved pets at home, but are secretly dreaming of a holiday without poo bags, daily exercise, and bringing treats wherever you go! There are plenty of Lake District activities, from browsing the Ambleside boutiques, to kayaking on Lake Windermere, that are more enjoyable without a furry friend in tow.
Now might be the perfect time to escape for a relaxing, well-earned getaway, in the glorious Lake District. Our pet-free holiday cottages, situated in picturesque locations throughout the central Lake District, from Elterwater, to Hawkshead, are just waiting for you to visit and make yourself at home. On all of our properties, there is a paw symbol, and if there is a ‘No’ next to it, the cottage is pet-free.

You’ll be spoilt for choice of incredible things to do on your relaxing, pet-free break. First, why not stop for a delicious breakfast at Greens in Grasmere, before visiting the picture-perfect ‘Dove Cottage’, the delightful former home of no other than William Wordsworth! Open Tuesday to Saturday, the house and tranquil garden are no dogs allowed, which makes it the perfect place to visit on a pet-free break.
In the afternoon, explore the High Close Tree Trail, a leisurely walk through the stunning arboretum at High Close, a former country house estate, that is home to many exotic trees and shrubs. Or if you’re feeling a little more adventurous, you could tackle a ramble up Helm Cragg one of the most scenic Lake District walks. For the best views, and the most peace and quiet on the way up, it’s a good idea to do the route anticlockwise. To finish off the day, treat yourself to a mouth-watering meal at the Eltermere Inn, just down the road from Elterwater village, where you can enjoy great food, in comfortable surroundings.
