Overview

Heron Place, Great Langdale

Heron Place was built in the 1930’s in the style of a traditional Lakeland farmhouse.

Please note: booking this property requires a damage deposit of £750 which will be taken the day before arrival.

We originally took Heron Place on with the current owners in 2016, after the property had been lovingly decorated and furnished.  Now, following a period of extensive building work, the property has been extended to accommodate 8 guests (3 double rooms and a twin), with an extended kitchen, wonderful oak-framed garden room and 3 beautiful bathrooms.  The renovation and extension work was completed to a very high standard in 2018 and the owners have spared no expense in fitting out and furnishing this wonderful home.

Heron Place was built in the 1930’s in the style of a traditional Lakeland farmhouse.  The interior of the property retains many of its original features with strong influences from the Arts & Crafts movement.  A great deal of attention has been paid to warmth and stylish furnishings throughout the property – this is very much a home for the owners who are sharing this with us.

There is almost an acre of garden, which has been carefully planted, with paths and various seating areas which provide dramatic vistas of the stunning views into Great Langdale. A wooden deck has been built around the tree in the middle of the garden, which provides an amazing area to sit and enjoy the views.  A beck runs off the fells through one side of the garden and is now incorporated as a feature in the garden room.  The Langdale Pikes dominate the area and provide an awesome sense of scale.

This is a truly luxury self-catering property.

The Langdale Valley is one of the Lake District’s most iconic and breathtaking locations, famed for its rugged scenery, dramatic fells and traditional stone-built villages. Home to the striking Langdale Pikes, the valley offers some of the best walking, climbing and cycling routes in the national park, with something for everyone from gentle riverside strolls to challenging ridge hikes.

Langdale is easily reached from Ambleside by car via the A593 and B5343, or by bus from Windermere station (around 9 miles away), with stops at Chapel Stile and Elterwater.

At the heart of the valley are the welcoming villages of Elterwater and Chapel Stile, where you’ll find cosy pubs, cafés and a village shop. Walkers can set out straight from their door to explore the Pikes, Crinkle Crags, Bowfell and beyond, or simply enjoy the peaceful riverside paths and woodland trails closer to the valley floor.

With its stunning views, excellent access to the central fells and an authentic, unspoilt atmosphere, the Langdale Valley is the perfect choice for anyone looking to experience the true beauty of the Lake District.
